And then there was fire is a beautiful Spanish inspired restaurant situated at Nirox Sculpture park. It is separated in two sections, The Grill Room which serves the set menu as well as the tapas bar entirely dedicated to bite size foods.
Nirox Sculpture Park houses so many unique works of art and there was fire has been built in such a way that it blends in like a glove. Most of the dishes are grilled on the fire and at a view of most guests. I have always had a soft spot for Nirox as I crazily eloped there with my husband and had a very intimate wedding with just our kids and us. Over the years, the Nirox winter sculpture fair held in connection with Amex.
These events have allowed us to enjoy the park with the taste of different foods and wines from the winelands. And then there was fire is the most amazing concept that allows us to simple dine and enjoy the park every single weekend. The structure is constructed so beautifully allowing a lot of air to circulate. It simple brings in the nature into your table. Given that we are going through the pandemic, this is an ideal place to dine without worrying about contracting Covid.
With the wooden tables, chairs and nice cushioned benches this places is all about comfort for the guest. To visit this place you have to book beforehand. Moreover, one thing I love about their booking policy is that if allows them to control the number of people coming through and to make sure people honor their booking, they apply a booking fee of R100 per person.
For our starter I opted for (soup of the day) which was lentil soup to share with my husband. For our mains, we went with the Rib eye on bone and free-range chicken. In addition, desert was Chocolate Marquise served with dulche de leche, cream and berries.
The service was superb and the owners always check on all guests. From when you walk on to the moment you walk out you are well taken care of. After eating, the great food, you have a chance to walk through the park and view all the art work as well as take in the beautiful scene. The regular entry into the park is R120, but when you visit the restaurant, that fee is reduced to R70.
I would say I am looking forward to go again, enjoy the food, and maybe try the tapas. In varsity, we had a Spanish lecture from Spain. The way she taught us about the food and culture of the Spanish stays with you forever. And tapas is one of the biggest food culture for Spanish people. I will recommend this place for anyone including those with kids. Tapas bar is always set under the trees and you get to see your kids play in nature while enjoying the food.
